Printer offline
A printer can be switched on and perfectly happy while the computer still cannot reach it.A printer can be switched on, loaded with paper and perfectly happy, while the computer still can't reach it. What sits between them is Wi-Fi, the local network, an IP address, possibly a print server, a driver and the print queue.
What you may notice
- Jobs remain in the queue.
- One computer can print but another can't.
- The printer works by cable but not over the network.
- The printer changed network address.
- Scanning works but printing doesn't, or the reverse.
Check the printer and everything between
We check the printer, the network path, device settings, the print queue, the driver and the infrastructure around them. If the fault turns out to be inside the printer, the repair belongs with the manufacturer or the warranty provider, and we'll say so.
It's worth knowing which of those it is before anyone buys a new printer.
