Blue screen or repeated crash

The pattern identifies this, not the code. Same time, same app, always after the dock.

The error code on the screen is worth noting and is rarely the answer on its own. What identifies the cause is the pattern around it: the same time each day, the same application, always after a dock is connected or only when the machine has been awake for hours.

Worth recording before you call

  • The exact wording or code on the screen.
  • What was open or being done at the time.
  • Whether it happens on battery, on power, or both.
  • Anything connected: a dock, a monitor, an external drive.
  • When it started, and what changed around then.

Read the pattern, then separate hardware from software

We look at the crash records, recent updates and drivers, memory and storage health, and the pattern you've described. That usually narrows it to hardware or to something installed.

Nobody reinstalls Windows on this machine until the data is somewhere else. It is the standard suggestion, it sometimes works, and it destroys anything that was only local.

If it turns out to be failing memory or a failing disk, no amount of software work will hold it together, and we'll tell you that rather than billing three visits to arrive at the same sentence.
